Electric pick-up device

Posted 4 July 2018 in Case studies

Nine year old Dorothy* found it difficult to pick things up because of weakness in her hands and arms. Standard grabbers were no help because they needed a strong grip to pull the trigger. The solution was to make an electro-mechanical grabber from robot parts. It’s battery operated and charges from a USB socket. Two switches control the opening and closing of the jaws. Within minutes of getting it, she was able to pick up a pencil and then a heavy pepper grinder.
